“Caffé del Tasso” is a place full of history
An historical, elegant and refined bar which has heterogeneity as its stronger suit
This is a place where people meet and talk, because here everybody can feel at ease in every moment of the day. This cafeteria has become also a restaurant, where all the elements coexist in a well-balanced way. Caffè del Tasso has the great advantage of being placed in one of the most beautiful locations of the whole city, the so called “Piazza Vecchia” in Bergamo Upper town.
The bar is in the very heart of the medieval suburb, it is the perfect location for meeting, exchanging opinions and discussing; many significant figures were guests of this historical bar, where plenty of authentic stories, which testify the real essence of the café, are setted.
Marcello, who, together with his brother Massimo, is the restaurant owner, says: “My parents had the possibility to acquire this bar almost by chance, because of their contacts and thanks to some lucky encounters”. The current owners opened the bar on September 1st, 1989 and so their big adventure started. “At the time, there weren’t any restrictions on vehicles movement across the Upper town, so people could access this part of the city in every moment and without any problems. Then, in 1990, when some limitations for traffic were introduced, we were a little worried for our activity, but we managed to keep the situation under control and also thanks to the presence of the airport, nowadays many tourists and visitors stop here, if only for a little while.
The proposal of Caffè del Tasso
This is a heterogeneous bar which offers a varied proposal, suitable to all needs. This well-stocked cafeteria offers not only home-made desserts and pastry products, but also a coffee blend personally created by Marcello and Massimo. There at Caffè del Tasso you can have a real gastronomic trip through the desserts typical of the culinary tradition of Bergamo, such as the Donizetti cake or the famous “Polenta e osei”.
Here you can always find high quality snacks and desserts made with attention to details, from the morning breakfast till the afternoon snack, and even for your aperitif and after the dinner. Our beverage proposal is even better, with cocktails and a wide selection of different wines, managed by Marcello, a professional sommelier.
Finally, the restaurant list was added to the gastronomic proposal by the family in 2006, with the help of the chef Maurizio Bonomi.
The menu is modified every month and it contains few dishes because they use only fresh raw materials and they want their dishes to be absolutely refined. The cuisine is open all-day, from 11.30 a.m. till nearly 11.00 p.m., and all the year long. They also offer a tasting menu with local products.
You can complete your meal with the high quality selection of wine labels on the list or with a good home-made beer.
