Monzio Compagnoni, a winery between Franciacorta and Bergamo
An excellent combination between two territories
Marcello Monzio Compagnoni, the owner of the wine cellar that bears his name, has chosen two very different territories to carry on his activity. He started his project 30 years ago, when he was nearly 20 and he came up with the original idea of creating an innovative company in the family property, placed in Cenate Sopra (Bg), with great care for details and for the low environmental impact issue.
There hadn’t been such innovative vinery projects on the territory of Bergamo yet and this one immediately gave great results. In 1995 Mr. Compagnoni decided to pass through the Oglio river to go to Franciacorta. So he bought the so called “Loneto” farmstead in Adro and there he started cultivating some vineyards, while on the territory of Bergamo he was already producing wines like the “Moscato” from Scanzo.
This company now interacts with two near but very different wine-growing areas.
The Monzio Compagnoni winery proposal
This company offers many different kinds of wine, from redones, to white wines, sparkling wines and Passito. Its main characteristic is that the wines do not come from the same area, but every typology is produced in a specific territory.
At the moment the following wines are made: six “Franciacorta” DOCG, one sparkling wine (the “Brut Tenuta delle Farfalle”) without appellation of origin, two red wines, three white ones (two from Franciacorta and one from Bergamo), one rosè wine and one “Moscato” from Scanzo.
The main sparkling wines from Franciacorta produced here are: the “Brut”, the “Extra Brut”, the “Satèn” and the Rosè wine, all marked with the year of production. Then, there are two white “Curtefranca” DOC from the same area.
There are also many wines made in the territory of Bergamo, such as the red ones, the rosè wine and the white wine from the territory of Bergamo IGT. Finally, we have the “Moscato” from Scanzo DOCG, which is just the cherry on top and is produced only on the hills of Scanzorosciate (Bg).
